Mammography

Mammography is a specialized, low-dose X-ray procedure used to examine breast tissue in both males and females, aiding in the early detection and diagnosis of breast conditions.

At Bendigo Radiology, we provide expert mammography services designed to detect and monitor breast health effectively.

Utilising advanced, low-dose X-ray technology, our mammography is performed in a compassionate and professional environment by clinically proficient, all-female staff. This service is crucial for evaluating symptoms, screening for breast cancer, especially in individuals with a family history, and is often complemented by ultrasound for comprehensive results.

During a mammogram at our facility, you will be guided by our female radiographers who are specially trained in mammographic imaging. The procedure involves placing the breast on a special platform and gradually compressing it with a paddle to spread out the tissue for clearer images. While the compression may cause brief discomfort, it is necessary to minimise radiation exposure and to get the best image quality. Our staff are skilled at making the process as comfortable as possible, ensuring your dignity and privacy at all times.

HOW IT WORKS

The breast is gently compressed between two plates on a dedicated machine, where low-dose X-rays capture detailed images to assess breast health.
