Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a safe, radiation-free diagnostic tool that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the body's internal structures.

At Bendigo Radiology, our ultrasound service offers a versatile and non-invasive method to examine various body parts including organs, muscles, blood vessels, and during pregnancy.

This technology provides real-time images that are crucial for diagnosis and treatment without the use of radiation, making it a preferred choice for many medical conditions.

During an ultrasound, you will be asked to lie on an examination table, and a small amount of water-based gel will be applied to the area being studied. This gel helps eliminate air pockets between the skin and the transducer (probe), which emits high-frequency sound waves through the body. The echoes of these sound waves are captured and transformed into digital images viewed in real-time on a monitor.

Ultrasound is not only used for diagnostic purposes but also guides more complex procedures such as biopsies and injections, ensuring precision and safety.

HOW IT WORKS

The ultrasound technician applies a special gel to your skin and then moves a handheld probe over the area, which emits sound waves that are converted into live images displayed on a monitor.

How long will my appointment take?

The duration of an ultrasound session at Bendigo Radiology can vary depending on the complexity of the scan and the area being examined, but most appointments are completed within 30 to 60 minutes. This includes preparation, the scanning process itself, and any follow-up discussion needed to explain the findings.

We strive to ensure your experience is as comfortable and efficient as possible, providing immediate feedback and insights during the procedure.
